Functional Herbal Medicine Consultations
What is Functional Herbal Medicine (FHM)
Functional Herbal Medicine (FHM) is a coming together of the traditions of herbal medicine and the contemporary functional medicine model. The principles of functional medicine strongly mirror ancient wisdom.
We prioritize identifying and addressing the root cause of your illness. We take a patient-centred systems approach, meaning we treat every person as unique and look at the body as a whole, rather than disconnected parts, as it is seen in the Western Medicine Model.
We consider the traditional and western uses of medicinal plants, and account for the energetics of the plant as well as the individuals unique constitution.
In FHM, all things are connected. We take into account an individual’s genes, diet, lifestyle, and environment to inform our personalized protocols. We use a combination of herbs, lifestyle, diet, and supplements to support our clients.

Why Custom Formulas?
Not every condition presents the same in people. Using anxiety as an example.
Some people’s anxiety manifests in the gut leading to a disturbance in digestion. This can manifest as a faster transit time (diarrhoea), delayed transit time (constipation) or spasming.
Sometime anxiety manifests in the chest causing palpitations, chest tightness and hyperventilation.
Lastly anxiety can manifest in the head causing dizziness, rapid thoughts and feeling faint.
In these three examples we have different plants to support anxiety relief. Each plant offers multiple actions. While we use the plant for anxiety it will also support a secondary symptom or complaint (digestive, cardiovascular, etc.)
